Synthesis of new estimates of comparative efficacy for a treatment for an ophthalmology condition
Client need
Our client required us to systematically identify studies that could be used to inform an indirect treatment comparison (ITC) between our client’s product and relevant comparators for treatment of an eye condition in a specific subpopulation. They needed us to conduct a feasibility assessment describing included studies and methods for ITC to synthesise new estimates of comparative efficacy and generate comparative estimates of efficacy for our client’s product with results ready for inclusion in health economic models.
Our response
Initiate took a three-step approach: a systematic literature review to identify and extract efficiency and safety data; a feasibility assessment to determine whether the data allows a comparison; and finally, an indirect treatment comparison to generate estimates of comparative efficacy. This was summarised in a report ready for inclusion in HE models.
Client value
The project provided the client robust comparative efficacy estimates for their ophthalmology treatment, specifically tailored for a key sub-population. By systematically identifying relevant studies, assessing the feasibility of indirect treatment comparisons, and generating new efficacy estimates, Initiate enabled the client to strengthen their health economic models. The comprehensive approach ensured that the results were ready for immediate use in HTA submissions, peer-reviewed publications, and economic evaluations, ultimately enhancing the client’s positioning and evidence base in the competitive landscape.
