Demonstrating logistical challenges in a real world setting to identify areas for treatment improvement

Client need

The client was looking to demonstrate the benefit of a new IV chemotherapy treatment which required less time to infuse versus the standard of care.

Our response

The Initiate team worked with the client and clinicians to identify what a typical day in a chemotherapy clinic looked like, to identify logistical challenges and areas of improvement. We created equations to simulate what the capacity of the clinic would look like on a typical day. We then modelled how a reduction in infusion time would impact the capacity of the clinic, quantifying how many more patients may be treated and what impact this would have on wait times.

This was constructed as an interactive tool that could be given directly to clinical leadership so they could insert their own specific data and estimate benefits that might be accrued directly to them.

Client value

The interactive tool enabled the client to visualise the benefits of the treatment in a new context, strengthening the value messaging efforts and materials. They were able to take the tool to chemotherapy clinics, enabling collaboration with clinicians and improving their understanding of the logistical challenges and how the product could alleviate capacity burden.
