Indirect treatment comparison feasibility study in a rare inherited liver condition

Client need

Our client wanted to evaluate the comparative efficacy of their treatment in a rare inherited liver condition with a comparator via an indirect treatment comparison.

Our response

Initiate recommended a three-stage approach consisting of a system literature review (in line with NICE recommendations for ITCs): a feasibility assessment identifying the clinical evidence of the treatments, the justification of included and excluded studies, specification of the endpoints of the ITC, and setting out the proposed analytical methods and anticipated results.  Lastly, the ITC itself was conducted to generate comparative estimates. A comprehensive technical report including methods and ITC results was also provided.

Client value

The client received a detailed technical report outlining the methods, analysis, and results of the ITC, which offered valuable comparative estimates of their treatment against a comparator. This thorough evaluation helped the client understand the effectiveness of their treatment in comparison to existing alternatives, supporting their decision-making and strategy.
